That’s my friend Paul (who is an awesome Photographer) with Christine (who is an awesome model) in my hallway (which is an awesome hallway) wearing a Kink Engineering superhero mask (which is an awesome superhero mask) reading an Empowered Comic (which is an awesome comic)
this photo is just ok… cause I took it.
But the ones residing inside that camera around his neck… those my friends will be EPIC.
I’ll be sure to post them when he does.  I think he’s up to no good at TCAF this weekend then they’ll be around the webs.

I’ll be releasing the photos on Monday but until then enjoy this little snapshot my friend Matt snapped on his iphone. The awesome sport who agreed to help me out for this shoot and dress up as the character is my good friend Christine. See more of her here: www.wix.com/christinevandenberk/performer#!info.

Change of plans:

I was not made aware that there was going to be a lovely half naked girl getting painted with liquid latex, photographed posing as a superhero, then having her costume torn off by me this evening in my apartment.

I had planned to play video games.

I… I think I just cured my video game addiction.

(Though in much the same way you can cure a drinking problem with Heroin)

I’m not re-blogging this as a favour to my buddy James who composed this song.

I’m re-blogging it as a favour to you - who should listen to it.

He’s got a Morrissy / Red House Painters / Woody Guthrie vibe going on, and he’s lovely.

“Some time has passed and now I know it
I ain’t done growing up
Nor do I expect or will that I ever will
I’m hooked on fuckin’ up
I wanna spend some time on you”

Back Story: James taught himself guitar in grade 10 on a rusty, bent and broken, horrible classical acoustic guitar that he found in his mother’s crawl space.  It was strung with steel strings instead of the nylon that should have been there, and the neck was badly warped.  That combo made for a year of bleeding finger tips, and crippling hand cramps… but he had a rabid dedication to his craft.

Then he finally saved enough for his first electric guitar (from bussing tables at a breakfast restaurant) and his music began to truly blossom.  That day and he turned right around, handed me his crappy acoustic guitar, smiled and said…

“Your turn”
What do you say to that?   You say “Ok” and start working at playing that damned thing.

I don’t get much oportunity to play guitar nowadays, but it’s still one of the most zen things that I do.   The result of learning guitar for me was finding a love of singing… that eventually led to being in musicals, which lead to dropping out of the “becoming an engineer” job pathway, which (eventually) let do working with latex for a living.  Guitar skills transferred over to a Ukulele also played a big part in sinking my hooks into Archean’s heart.  (El’ Scorcho by Weezer on Ukulele doesn’t work for everyone, but when it does… oh, boy does it!)

So… thanks James.

I wanna spend sometime on you. I ain’t got no map to where I’m heading.  I don’t know where I’m heading but I know I want to go with you.

From my father’s recently written memoirs:  His masters defence in 1964.
“Out of sheer desperation I came up with an argument to defend my fatally flawed Masters thesis. The argument was that the nature of computing technology was such that the orders of magnitude increases in processing speed needed for my programming work to NOT be totally useless would come about in the relatively near future.
When pressed for a fact based estimate of “how much faster and when?” I had to admit I could not do so. My statement that computing times would increase by more than 100% in a “reasonably short time” had no solid basis in measured reality. (Moore’s law would be coined just 2 years later, but nobody around the table knew that.)
Nevertheless three of the five professors ‘bought my argument’. They were undoubtedly the ones who simply wanted to see me gone from the place, as I could tell from the looks on all the faces of those professors that they didn’t agree with my claim.
The lesson to be learned from this story is that sometimes, on very rare occasions, pure bullshit can retroactively be turned into what can be claimed to be brilliant analysis.
Despite the fact that this was the only such event I ever encountered in my life, it turned me into a dedicated professional bull-shit artist of considerable if dubious accomplishment.”
Oh father… I have learned so much from you.  More than occasionally as a cautionary tale.
Also, my father set up and took this photo of me (Fodder) and my brother (Cannoneer).   So I guess I got my idea that a picture should tell a story from him.  That’s come in handy with showing off the latex designs.
Also also, he thinks it’s nifty that I run a latex business…  My whole family has always had a very real “Follow your dreams and work hard” thing.  I guess you can’t ask for much more than that.

Not too tired to smile…

As another 19 hour work day of creating for our first feature film costuming assignment rambles to a close (aka: we all fall apart from exhaustion) I noticed this re-re-post from Beefrank.

3 words Totally made my day.

More of those lovely laser cut latex fishnet stockings from www.ego-assassin.com on Kassandra.  Yowza!
ego-assassin:

James is helping.
We really appreciate all the excitement and support that many of you have been showing for our new laser-cut fishnet design. And so, to give you a closer look, we shot a quick video with the lithe and lovely Kassandra today, showing how easy it is to get into the fishnets, and how great they look going on. Leg and stocking fetishists, take note: more goodness to come in a few days.
And for the rest of you who have been so excited to get your hands on these puppies, we have good news for you too. Stay tuned this week.

When someone says “Fuck My Life” I agree, yes, Fuck Your Life you whining unappreciative quitter. Your first response to the most trivial of obstacles should not be to swear at yourself and everything you have. It should be to swear at the obstacle in the most profound way possible by SOLVING THE FUCK OUT OF IT.

Here Here! Well spoken sir!
