Did Claustrophilia Kill U.K. Spy Gareth Williams? - The Daily Beast

It is horrible to think that someone died as a result of playing unsafely with their fetish… but it is nice to see a reporter actually look at the underlying reasons that someone might be drawn to the act of bondage and encasement in the first place without demonizing it.

This is a great thing to do in a case of fetish gone wrong… if it’s only finger pointing in the tone of “This freak killed himself with a bondage toy” you are adding to the sort of stigma that continues to force people to play alone instead of seeking out a partner to play with and explore their fetish.   Playing alone is the root cause of almost all fatal bondage related accidents.

From the article:

Sensory deprivation, isolation, altered breathing, and fear expanding into a sense of surrender: claustrophilic kicks might be just as spiritual as they are sexual.

“There are people who love the meditative state that they can achieve from the deep pressure that tight confinement can cause,” says Winter Fetish project manager Jake Markow. “Others love the thrill of putting themselves in the trusted hands of another.”

That’s why we specifically make our products to be played with by at least a pair of people.  We also spend a lot of time being evangelists for the idea that fetishes do not make you a bad person, and that fetishes are very common, if not commonly discussed/revealed.

By growing a community, we promote a lot more safe play…  Self bondage comes with a lot more danger, and a lot less fun.

shinyretrostingy asked: Matt, What's the plug/port option shown on this bed http://kinkengineering.tumblr.com/post/3940460456/happy-customers ?

(Original post that the question references is here)

The opening you see is our “Penis Gasket” option.  It is available on any of our vacbeds and is custom tailored to fit.  (Yes that means that we’ll ask you to measure around your penis… it’s a bit personal but it’s best to get things to fit properly)

You can see all the options and additions that can be added to any of our custom latex vacuum beds here: Kink Engineering Latex Vacbeds

Miss Kitsch of www.fetishkitsch.com using a vacbed with the penis gasket option (in this case it is clamped closed while not in use by a little “chip clip” that we provide)

The penis gasket is mainly meant to allow access to the penis of a male subject inside the vacbed (see below), but it can also be easily closed off for play where that is not required (see above).  It can also be used to be a point of entry to the vacbed for dildos, vibrators, hands, feet, tubes, plugs, inflatables and more.   You can also use it for access to a female subject inside the vacbed by a male partner (or strap-on-ing female partner).

Rubberlovers blog: one way to use a penis gasket optional opening.

The downside of the penis gasket is that it may cause the vacbed to be a little bit more leaky than it would otherwise be.  Any extra holes added to a vacbed lead to a bit more leakage of air.  We minimize this by custom fitting every part of the vacbed to suit our customers, but the more holes, the less perfect the seal.  However, it’s only a matter of small differences and preferences.  Even with a penis gasket our beds stay sealed without the vacbed running for 10-15 minutes before needing a small Re-suctioning.

Hope that helps!
Kinkengineering.

On request: A photo of a vacbed with our “Small Port” option.  This small port is being used to allow for the 2nd girl in the vacbed to breathe.  The small port can also be used to install electrical play devices, enema play hoses, or any other thing that that you need to get into/out of the vacbed without breaking the seal.
An example of an installed small port: Click to zoom
When not in use the small port, which is shaped like a small penis gasket, is long enough to be closed off air tight with a simple twist tie.  Handy!

We can also do all sorts of custom options, and contraptions to suit your fetish!  Get in touch with us at info@kinkengineering.com to ask us questions.

Throwing my 2 cents into the comments on a mainstream site that picked up some of my work: "Han Solo Frozen In Carbonite" Fetish - Geekologie

Hiya!  I’m the owner of Kink Engineering.
Yep, it’s really (actually) my full time job to design and build fun BDSM toys for kinky people who like rubber.
Since this is a pretty mainstream site, I am sure a lot of you are currently writing WTFs and OMGs like crazy.  I don’t blame you.  It’s odd stuff.  But latex and BDSM are actually quite common.  Lady Gaga is also making LOTS of new latex lovers every day with her videos, so don’t knock it too hard _trust me_ someone you know and like, loves something freaky like this.
Another interesting fact is that us total nut-jobs that do like latex bdsm toys are also pretty normal people in our every-day lives.  Even the owner of this company (me) is a much more familiar type person than you would think… My employees and me watch reruns of Robot Chicken and Firefly in the workshop while building vacbeds and we even go as far as spoofing our favorite video games in our products…

How about a lady sealed inside a D6?http://tinyurl.com/vacdie
Steam Punk Vacbed?http://tinyurl.com/steampunkvacbed
A real latex superhero?http://tinyurl.com/latexsuperhero
We didn’t see those either… so we made them.
We made them because we thought it might be fun to try and we thought that the world needs more fun stuff. We’re total geeks and our particular avenue of contributing to the world is latex.  So be it!  Let the kink fun go forth!
And of course… yes, it was the Han Solo freezing scene that got me interested in the idea of a vacbed in the first place.  So I guess Mr. Lucas is to blame if I am a certified psycho for liking the idea of a vacbed.
Are these things safe?  The good news is that I am actually a trained engineer (it’s not just a business name, I have a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering) and I work very hard to make sure that the toys I sell are the safest on the market… it sure is possible for people to mis-use them… but we also trust our fellow citizens with guns, cars, and parenting, all of which have a much higher risk of damaging someone.   Surprisingly, one of the most safety-conscious communities in the world is the BDSM community as people playing at sexy and sometimes edgy games know that trust and safety is a requirement of enjoyment.
Anyway… I’m in no way defending myself.  We ARE weird people, and I don’t mind that some will comment negatively.
But…  Deep down I’m pretty sure that EVERYONE is a weirdo in some way.
So, I’ll be here to make great toys for a particular set of weirdos… and maybe allow them to feel a little less weird by knowing that someone thinks their strange passion is worth the effort to focus on it and create around it.
If you are a weirdo too (in whatever way you feel strange) don’t let the world bully you… if you are not hurting someone else with your desires or fantasies… go for it!  There’s lots of people out there who feel the same as you and will be happy to talk, play and explore the bizarre.
Life can be surreal if you let it.  Surreal can be super fun!
Cheers,
